Was I the last to know?

Was I the last to know?
As much as I'd like to think that I'm the bearer of new and exciting news, a lot of the material in this blog has been covered before and is common knowledge in the district. Here's a reference to an old South Florida Sun-Sentinel article which covers just about everything on this blog..

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel had this to say about Alcee: “Personal and political paybacks are the first order of business for Hastings.” That’s because Hastings put his girlfriend, a disgraced former lawyer who was disbarred by the Florida Supreme Court for “multiple offenses,” on the public payroll as his “office liaison and staff assistant.” According to the Sentinel, Alcee Hastings owed her “more than $500,000 in legal fees for representing him during his 1983 bribery trial and his 1989 impeachment hearings before Congress.” Alcee Hastings continues to employ her to this day.

Alcee Hastings’ career seems to be filled with political corruption and scandal. The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct is currently investigating Alcee Hastings for ethics violations. As if that weren’t bad enough, the disgraced former judge is also being investigated by the Florida Elections Commission and the Federal Election Commission for various charges of impropriety.

Remember that this guy took a trip to Ukraine to oversee the elections there, gives you a lot of confidence doesn't it?

Maybe he was not overseeing elections as much as he was gathering information on how to accomplish some of the same type shenanigans as Ukrainian politicians and/or get rid of enemies. Outside of bussing blocks of voters, there are also accidental deaths.

This guy is typical of our government and the mess we are in. What did Don Imus say the other morning, we know they all all crooks, we just like this one better... commenting on the race in New Jersey.

The Senate could have barred him from holding this office in the impeachment, but they probably never thought of this.

Now I hear, if the dems get control of the house this guy is getting a chair!

Go Nancy, restore the house to respectability!

Oh, man, Mark Foley should have kept that page in the freezer, or instead of resigning changed parties..

hey he is back in the news, better start blogging again, your blog is one of the top google searches for Alcee Hastings. Now that the "culture of corruption" has been voted out, it feels great to have ethical people in Washington.

Somewhere in this blog or elsewhere, surely, there is an explanation, reasonable or not, as to the how and why this crook keeps getting elected and rising in stature and power in Congress. I had never heard of him until this week, but it truly does not speak well for the voters of florida that this criminal is allowed to "serve" in Congress.

What is the threshold of corruption for blacks to say "enough is enough". I fear that simple bribary is not sufficient.

Is anyone verifying this information or the motive?

I have reviewed all the comments concerning Alcee Hastings and not one of them have been authored by anyone even remotely familiar with the man himself. I know, from personal experience, that this man's character can only defined by the single word "honourable." I, myself, stood before Judge Hastings as an indigent defendant. The only thing or person that stood between me and annihilation by the U.S. Justice Department was this man and his sense of justice. He proved to me, long ago, that the phrase "Equal Justice Under Law" can, and should, live and breathe in courtrooms as it once in his.
I had no need of an expensive private criminal defense attorney at my side. I had Alcee Hastings looking out for my legal rights and blasted anyone who tried to deprive me of them.
I know this man as a personal friend and will forever be in his debt. Now....how many of his critics can say that?

If anyone cares to see a modern day, August 2008 report on just how bad a "corruptocrat" Hastings is, all you have to do is visit his election challenger's website at www.raytorressanchezforcongress2008.com

But I warn yazzzz, best be sitting down when you read it.

If it's not true, think of the damage it's done to the principals mentioned. Especially , the women.

Don't forget when Alcee Hastings was a judge in the circuit court in 1981, he was charged with taking bribes (150,000.00)for a lighter sentence.
